The Setup
If you’re looking for a relaxed, family-friendly winery in Lodi, Lucas Winery deserves a spot on your tasting itinerary.
Our visit included two adults, two kids, five pours, standout hospitality, and one of the better-value tasting experiences we’ve found in the Lodi AVA.
We came to Lucas Winery in Lodi, California with a clear mission: revisit a Chardonnay we tried a year ago…
A friend handled the reservation, so we can’t speak to the process, but everything felt seamless upon arrival.
First impression? Quaint, clean, and welcoming. Think small, well-kept property with trees shading the parking lot and just enough charm to feel tucked away.
The Tasting Experience
We were guided through 5 wines. The experience felt personal from start to finish.
Glo, our hostess, set the tone immediately. She was warm, attentive, and incredibly thoughtful toward us and the kids.
She gave the kids cups to play with rocks and even brought out Honest juices. This ensured the kids wouldn’t leave the winery without their own, age-appropriate, grape intake.
As a parent, this was something worth noting and extremely impactful.

If Money Didn’t Matter…
I’d walk away with a mixed case:
- 3 ZinStar
- 3 C’T’Z’N’
- 3 Chardonnay
- 3 Late Harvest
No hesitation.
Hospitality That Stands Out
We were greeted with genuine warmth — no script, no rush.
Glo didn’t just pour wine; she told the story behind everything. Vineyard history, winemaking philosophy, and how each bottle fits into their identity. It felt authentic, not rehearsed.
When we mentioned we bought and enjoyed their 2003 Chardonnay last year, the conversation shifted naturally. That bottle became a bridge into how they approach aging and structure.
Would we bring a wine beginner here? ABSOLUTELY.
It’s approachable, educational, and never intimidating. You learn without realizing you’re learning.
Value
- Tasting Fee: $20 per person
- What You Get: 5 pours + a chocolate pairing at the end
- Waived with Purchase?: Yes (1 bottle minimum)
Verdict: Strong value compared to many Lodi winery tasting experiences.
At this price point, with this level of hospitality, it’s a no-brainer.
While the tasting to wine value is strong, when it comes to price per bottle, we have tried more affordable wines in the Lodi AVA (more on that in future reviews).
Ambiance
This place strikes a rare balance.
From the outside, it looks like a small barnyard setup.
Step inside, and it’s clean, modern, thoughtfully designed, and you can peek into their production area.
The back tasting area feels like someone’s backyard—in the best way possible. It even has a designated area for Club Members to enjoy.

At 11am on a Saturday, we had the place to ourselves. Another group trickled in around noon, but it never lost that relaxed, unhurried feel.
This isn’t a place you camp at all day—about 1.5 hours is perfect—but it’s an ideal stop to ease into a full day of tastings.
Accessibility & Logistics
- Location: Near other wineries but still feels private
- Parking: Easy, close, and straightforward (rock/grass with accessible cement areas)
- Reservations: Recommended, especially weekends—but they accommodated walk-ins too
- Wait Time: None
- Family-Friendly: Yes (kids, pets, accessibility all covered)
A Note from the Tasting Room
“Our wines have light acid across the board to help with aging. This is why our members can enjoy a 2004 Chardonnay today and it still holds its character.” — Glo, Hostess
Final Take
Lucas Winery is one of the most welcoming and family-friendly tasting experiences we’ve had in Lodi.
This winery doesn’t try to impress you — it just does.
It’s thoughtful, welcoming, and quietly confident in what it offers.
Whether you’re revisiting an old favorite or discovering something new, it delivers a complete experience without the pressure or pretense.
And if you’ve got kids with you, even better! They’ve already thought of that too.
